Overcharge protection for power tools, garden tools, and cleaners | Case studies of the use of Surface mount fuse (protective elements)
- Protects batteries and circuits in power tools, garden tools, and cleaners
- In recent years, lithium-ion batteries have become commonplace in power tools (electric tools), garden tools, and cleaners, which are becoming increasingly high-output and high-voltage.
As the capacity of lithium-ion batteries continues to increase, ensuring safety in the unlikely event of an abnormality is becoming increasingly important. Dexerials' Surface mount fuse "SCP (Self Control Protector)," is equipped with a secondary protection function that physically cuts off the circuit in the event of an abnormality such as overcharging or overcurrent, and contributes to improving the safety of lithium-ion batteries.

Application
Ensuring safety when abnormalities occur in the charging/discharging circuit
Devices equipped with batteries have a mechanism that disconnects the battery from the charging/discharging circuit and stops charging/discharging if an abnormality occurs in the battery voltage or load current due to an impact such as being dropped or being exposed to high temperatures, thereby preventing accidents in the event of an abnormality.
Supports fast charging
Dexerials' SCP is a low-resistance secondary protection element that can also handle low-resistance power line sections, supporting the development of power tools that require rapid charging while ensuring safety.
Compatible with high-voltage power tool, garden tool, and cleaner batteries
Dexerials' SCP supports the realization of high-voltage power tools with its extensive lineup and proven track record and know-how in supporting a variety of charge/discharge circuits.
Product characteristics
A heater is built into the element, allowing for arbitrary shutoff.
When the secondary protection IC detects an abnormality such as overcharging, it provides a "secondary protection" function that generates heat from the built-in heater and actively melts the fuse element to physically cut off the circuit.
Irreversible circuit interruption due to physical interruption
When an abnormality first appears, the circuit is physically cut off, preventing the battery from recovering once it has been compromised.
Compact and lightweight for automatic mounting
Dexerials' SCP increases the design freedom of battery management systems (BMS) for batteries used in power tools, garden tools, and cleaners, where components must be mounted in a limited space.
